Two programming languages I use daily: Prolog and Julia

These two languages are easy to learn, and allow for a neophyte to write useful programs right away. Learn Prolog Now is free online and is an excellent beginning text that is also available as an inexpensive textbook. Introduction to Computational Thinking provides a terrific introduction to Julia. It's an MIT course, but you don't have to speed through it like the students do. The examples are simply terrific!
